Area Code History

Individuals using this site for historical reference should be aware that much of the data prior to 1965 is sorely lacking, and best estimates were posted here, given available information at the time of original publication (of this site). Sadly, much of the physical documentation that might have been available for research is no longer kept by Bell, but might still be squirreled away somewhere in a private archive collection (if it even exists at all). We are always grateful for contributions of any historical information by former and/or retired Bell engineers, enthusiasts, historians. Specific contributions of data will be credited both below and referenced at the item level on pages where contributions are relevant.
